TPEF Responds to Cebu Earthquake and Offers Long-Term Support
When disaster strikes, community matters most. Following the devastating 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Cebu in September, the TORM Philippines Education Foundation (TPEF) moved quickly to support affected families in Medellin, Cebu, particularly in Barangay Caputatan where damage was severe.

In coordination with local community leaders, TPEF distributed relief packages to affected households. These included members from the Caputatan community whose homes were severely damaged, and three families of affected TORM crew members.
Each family received closed tents, waterproof tarpaulins, rechargeable fans with LED lights, floodlights with solar panels, and portable power stations to help them stay safe during continuing aftershocks.
The response provided immediate shelter and comfort for families still coping with trauma from the quake. TORM volunteers also brought moments of brightness, handing out treats to children who smiled despite recent hardships.

Building Beyond Relief
TPEF’s commitment extends beyond immediate response. In partnership with Caputatan Norte Integrated School, TPEF will build makeshift learning spaces to ensure that learners can continue their education safely when in-person classes resume in January 2026.
Through this effort, TPEF continues its commitment to help communities rebuild with resilience and dignity while ensuring access to quality education for learners affected by the earthquake.
