Scholarship Grant Program (SGP)
Every year, TPEF reaches out to remote rural areas across the country to grant college education scholarships to 6 youths from poor families. The poverty situation of an area is one major element in selecting the scholars. It forges a partnership with existing local community development organizations, non-government organizations, and/or Department of Education offices in identifying a public high school as the scholarship testing and interview venue in search for potential scholars. It provides equal opportunities to all students including “returnees” or out-of-school youths and indigenous peoples. A scholarship grant is also awarded to 5 beneficiaries of ordinary seafarers and staff of Torm Shipping Philippines and their beneficiaries.
Qualifying examinations and interviews for candidates are regularly administered from November to December in the rural area selected by TPEF and prior to their entry into college. Orientation about the foundation’s programs and value formation workshops in the area are provided among new scholars with their parents.
Scholars’ Development Program (SDP)
Complementing TPEF’s scholarship program focus on academics, it engages in capacity building program which hoped to contribute to the scholars’ total human development. The training components provided in the Scholars’ Development Program (SDP) include personal growth, development, and empowerment, inculcating knowledge, skills, and values of participation and collaboration in social transformation, and soft skills development such as analytical and critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, leadership, and others. TPEF conducts Learning Summits and General Assemblies to all scholars, Self and Social Responsibility workshop to new scholars and parents per area, and monthly webinars and online workshops.
The Scholars’ Development Program (SDP) integrates the self-reflection process, in which scholars are given time and opportunity to think back towards self-awareness, realization, and improvement.
Other Social Development Initiatives (SDI)
With its advocacy for quality education, TPEF believes on the need to extend support to the partner rural schools in terms of learning facilities and materials. Trainings among public school teachers and students are also provided to enhance their skills.
TPEF also assists partner local organizations or community development organizations in their development efforts such as disaster response and rehabilitation, environmental protection and management, and others.
