Food Packets Distribution in Siargao Island

One of the most devastated areas hit by the typhoon Rai (known as “Odette” in the Philippines) is Siargao island. After the typhoon made landfall on 16 December 2021, thousands of islanders needed immediate help and relief which include food, water, hygiene kits, health care, etc.

With support from TORM Philippines, around 286 families from barangay Caub and Mabuhay in Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte received food packets on 19 January and 06 February 2022.

In partnership with several private and non-government organizations, donations were delivered to Surigao City from Manila.

The food packets were then brought to the island for distribution through the TORM Philippines Education Foundation scholars alumni in Del Carmen who worked tirelessly in the field to serve the affected families.

As shared by most of the families who received the support, they were thankful for the food packets provided, especially when food remained an urgent need with very scarce resources on the island.

TORM Philippines Education Foundation is also thankful to the various donors—TORM seafarers, colleagues, and friends who have helped us bring aid to the affected families and communities.
