TPEF Delivers New Classroom and Essential Support to Remote School in Quezon
A brighter future awaits the learners and teachers at San Isidro Elementary School following the successful turnover of a disaster-resilient classroom and various educational support initiatives by the TORM Philippines Education Foundation (TPEF).
The project, implemented under TPEF’s Social Development Initiatives (SDI) Program, marked the culmination of months of planning, preparation, and construction aimed at improving learning conditions in one of the most remote communities in San Narciso, Quezon. The turnover ceremony was headed by the TPEF Board of Trustees Chairperson and TORM PLC Senior Vice President and Head of Technical Division, underscoring the organization’s commitment to supporting underserved communities through education and social development. TPEF members, colleagues, and volunteers from TORM Philippines also attended the event and witnessed firsthand the positive impact of the initiative on the school and its community.

For years, students attended classes in makeshift learning spaces that offered limited protection against harsh weather conditions and frequent typhoons. Recognizing the need for a safer and more conducive environment for learning, TPEF constructed a durable classroom designed to withstand natural disasters while providing students with a secure and comfortable space to study.
More than just a classroom, the facility serves as a valuable community resource. It is equipped with proper ventilation, ample natural lighting, a restroom, a rainwater harvesting system, and a handwashing station, supporting both quality education and student well-being. The handwashing facility also complements the Department of Education’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program, promoting healthy habits and a safer school environment.
TPEF’s support extended beyond infrastructure. Understanding the challenges faced by teachers who stay on campus throughout the week due to the school’s remote location, the Foundation donated a refrigerator and eight mattresses to help improve their living conditions and provide greater comfort during their stay at the school. These contributions recognize the dedication and commitment of educators who continue to serve learners despite geographical challenges.
The Foundation also brought joy to the school’s 85 students, from Kindergarten to Grade 6, through the donation of new footwear. In addition, TORM Philippines, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, provided complete school uniforms, socks, towelettes, and snack packs, ensuring that learners were equipped with essential items for their educational journey.

The turnover ceremony brought together representatives from the Department of Education, local government units, school officials, and officers of the Parents-Teachers Association, reflecting a shared commitment to improving educational opportunities for children in the community.
As the first organization to provide substantial support to the school since 2023, TPEF has made a meaningful and lasting contribution to San Isidro Elementary School. More than a physical structure, the new classroom and accompanying donations symbolize hope, resilience, and opportunity—affirming that every child deserves access to a safe and quality learning environment, regardless of location.
Through initiatives such as this, TPEF continues to empower communities, support educators, and invest in the future of Filipino learners, helping create brighter opportunities for generations to come.
